Population Change
The Population of Ireland was drastically changed during the Potato Famine of 1845. The population was at it's peak when the blight hit. It caused over 1 million deaths, and destroyed Irelands economy. Irelands economy was strongly based on the potato, and the potato was also their staple crop. When the potatoes went, so did the Irish. With so many people dying, some people were fortunate enough to leave the country. They fled to nearby countries like England and France.
Because of the Irish potato famine, the relationships between Ireland and countries around it were changed. Also, thanks to the Potato Famine, we now know not to depend heavily on one crop, but to spread our agriculture between many products.
