Our topic is the Great Potato Famine of Ireland in 1845. The plague was significant because the Irish peasant’s diet consisted mostly of Potatoes. The Famine adheres to the topic because of the fact that it reduced Ireland's population by ¼ in 5 years. This is a significant turning point for Ireland especially, but also it affected the whole world in some social and economic ways.
We are going to talk about what the causes for the Great Potato Famine were (Natural v.s. social), the infected potatoes, and the symptoms of people who were affected by the Famine, plus the effects of the Famine (Short and Long Term).
